Vasant Panchami

Yesterday’s auspicious festival of Vasant Panchami at the
Durga Temple of Westchester, marks the arrival of spring! Our devotee community and volunteers came together to celebrate the occasion and receive blessings from Saraswati Devi.

Along with a pooja in honor of Saraswati Maa, we sang bhajans and were mesmerized by the devotion of our talented young performers. Laxmi, Saraswati and Durga Devi were even with us in person!

Everyone stood up to sing Saraswati Maa Ki Aarti.

After a great celebration, we enjoyed prasad and lunch that was made and served by our dedicated volunteers

Please join us for our next Hanuman Chalisa, on Tuesday Feb 12th!

Traditions of Vasant Panchami

The color yellow is perhaps the most prominent feature on Vasant Panchami. Yellow colored clothes, foods (like saffron rice), flowers (mustard) and sweets (with kesar) are the traditional norm on this day. Goddess Saraswati is adorned in yellow clothes as yellow is considered to represent the sattva guna – characteristic of purity, prosperity and love.

So how do you celebrate Vasant Panchami? Do you have any special family traditions that you would like to share with us? Join us on Sunday 2/10 at 11AM.
